scotch_adamHello.  My name is Adam.  I live in Denver, Colorado, and I love whiskey, especially scotch.  About three years ago I started drinking Scotch, mostly Dewars and soda on the recommendation of a friend.  I found the taste to be perfectly refreshing one hot afternoon in the park and was hooked.

Scotch has a profound effect on my demeanor.  Giving me the bravado of a gladiator, the wit and biting sarcasm of someone who completely lacks a filter and finally, the attitude of an old, old man, who would prefer to hit you upside the head with a cane than hear about your day.  This alter ego has been named “Scotch Adam” by my friends.  He shows up at most birthdays, an occasional work party and can be seen running around Denver most weekends.

However, Scotch Adam retains a large amount of the nerdom that makes Adam so fucking loveable (and humble for days).  And Scotch Adam loves to prove a point.  Unforunately, the only point he knows nothing about is… Scotch.

In my years of drinking various scotchs, I’ve found ones I prefer (Johnny Walker Black) and very few I don’t like. However, I can’t tell you the difference between a grain whiskey and a malt whiskey (other than the obvious).  I don’t know anything about the barrels, which are evidently pretty important.

So I decided to do something about this.  I’ve decided to educate myself to become less of a drunk and more of a connoisseur.  Through this blog, I hope to understand the history, the regions, the ingredients, the process, the nuances and everything else related to scotch.

If you’re into whiskey or just enjoy hearing about the antics one can get into after too much hooch, keep tabs on the blog.  You’ll laugh, but you’ll probably learn something too.  I’m like PBS, but drunk.
